Sadie is for sale...

I love being an author. And a crazy babysitter. But both jobs take lots of time...

And Mama dogs need time, TLC, and a vigilant owner/breeder.

Maddie and Libby are staying here with us. I think I will breed Libby one more time, next spring.

Mick is living at Mandy and Paul's house in Hilton. That means that Sadie, our pretty, high-spirited dark red Golden Retriever needs a home.

You've seen her picture here, on this blog. We've had three very nice litters. She is an attentive mother and a good family dog. Her one downfall is she doesn't play well with Libby-the-Poodle.

She loves attention, she never gets on furniture, she stays in the laundry room unless invited into the main house, she's not prone to weight gain and she's got strong hunting and health background.

She is unspayed. If used for breeding, I would recommend a stud dog with a very quiet, lazy way about him. Sadie and Mick are both smart and love attention, but that makes very busy puppies. I think a quiet, laid-back stud dog would be better for her.

Doodles will have curly or wavy hair generally... Ours tend toward curl because Mick is a curly coated Golden Retriever. His father had gorgeous red curls, so it's natural for our Doodles to curl...

And they're beautiful pups.... Doodles will be vet-checked and available to go to their new homes in mid-May.

The Puppies Are Growing!!!!

Here is a picture of "Donnegal"... Yes, the little kids named him, isn't he gorgeous??? And of course, you can pick your own name!

Donnegal will turn red as he matures. The color of his ear tips and muzzle reflect his "adult" color...

Donnegal is from a "Mick" X "Sadie" cross, a gorgeous red-toned retriever puppy from a long line of healthy field champion Midwestern Golden Retriever stock.

Donnegal will be vet checked, he's AKC registered, he's strong, sturdy, big and delightfully smart. All of our puppies are integrated with children, cats, kittens, people and noise. Puppies are raised in our home for optimum socialization until they're too big for the laundry room.

One Golden Retriever Available!

One of our families has opted for a Doodle puppy instead, which means one of Sadie's X Mick's puppies is still available.

Oh, what a yawn!!!

Puppies are AKC registered, from strong Midwestern lines, huge number of recognized field champions on both sides of the family. They will be vet-checked, they're home-raised, accustomed to being handled by children and adults, and used to cats, kittens, chickens and one obnoxious but very attractive Rooster!

Okay, this is a quick video of Sadie's babies... Mom's outside, I'd just changed the bedding and they're just beginning to yip... And they've opened their eyes!

60-70 lbs. Male.

These are gentle, affectionate, smart dogs with no-shed or low-shed qualities from the Poodle side. Sweet-natured, used to children and good with other pets. Parents are both AKC registered.

My theory has always been that good, smart, gentle dogs pass those intrinsic qualities on to their offspring.

Doodles Being Born!!!

Oh, happy day! So far a safe delivery for all...  Libby has given birth to three females and two males so far.

Beautiful babies!  All are black with a little white... Her typical coloring in Dog World Genetics 101!!!

We don't care what color they are, we love healthy, happy babies.

Gotta go back to the nursery....

All four pups have gained two ounces since birth. Mom's milk is in... they are hungry and happy and beautiful!

Oh, happy first day of spring!  We can't wait to see these Doodle babies!

Four Puppies....

So far. We might be done. We might not. Sometimes we take a break in the middle of the action and catch our  breath!

2 Males....  2 females.... All a pound or more in birth weight, so big, sturdy pups!

Puppies Being Born!!!!

Got my coffee.... And three puppies so far! We started delivering at 12:22 AM, and we've just delivered #3!!!

YAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAYAY!!!!

Sadie is being her typical wonderful Mom-self and taking great care of each new arrival. Puppy #1 (a girl) is in a cozy box by the wood stove to stay warm while Mom takes care of #2 (male) and #3 (?????)  I won't check #3 and do a weigh in until Mom's had a few more minutes with him/her.

SO EXCITING!!!!!

No Puppies Yet!!!!!

But we can see them moving inside.... And Mama is acting like she's ready. Hunting for a spot... Digging holes because her instinct tells her she needs to make a "den"....

My instinct says I don't want to fish puppies out from beneath the shed, so I've limited her digging opportunities!

And here's a picture of Sadie.... And Maple, our house calico who gave birth to six tiny kittens In The Kitchen.... Yes, she likes to be around people, she's a social cat.... three days ago. She and Sadie were due within a few days of each other, so things are happening here!

Aren't they adorable????  All are doing well. And they're waiting for puppies to play with!

I'll post again once the happy occasion has occurred. We're praying for a safe and sound delivery for all concerned.

We've had it on good authority from the canine stork that Sadie....

Will have puppies in about two weeks time. Sadie tends to deliver around day 58-60 so we're on puppy watch after March 16th!!!!!

Are expecting as well and their puppies look like this little guy right here!  Isn't he adorable?  Their puppies are due about a week after Sadie's due to whelp. This is a Golden Doodle. Yes, he's black. And mom is dark brown. And Mick is red/gold. 


I do not know how this happens, but I'm assured it's quite normal in Dog World.

2012 Update!

Oh my stars, what a fun fall and holiday season we enjoyed. New babies, new books, new projects!

Golden Retriever update:

"Sadie"

We've just mated Sadie back to Mick.

Hearthside's McDreamy:  "Mick"

 We're only doing spring/summer litters now (because winter litters gave me agita!!!). If the mating was successful, puppies should be born in mid-March and ready for homes by the end of April or beginning of May.



Doodle update:

"Libby" our chocolate brown standard Poodle. She's about the sweetest dog I've ever met.

Libby has also been bred back to Mick. She and Sadie went into heat within a week of each other, so it's been an interesting few weeks around here!  If this was a successful mating, then we will be looking at Goldendoodle pups around mid-March, with the puppies ready for homes at the beginning of May.

Breeding is an inexact science, but we've had such a good time getting to know all kinds of people.
